Despite a brisk winter’s chill, 31 dedicated residents gathered at the Winchelsea Senior Citizens Centre on Monday evening, 14 July 2025, for a community forum focused on shaping the future of their town.
"The event formed part of the Winchelsea Place Plan process, with Kate Sullivan, Manager of Integrated Planning at Surf Coast Shire, guiding attendees through the planning framework and engaging the community in an open discussion about the town’s growth and development," said John Tebbutt, President of Growing Winchelsea.
Key topics included an update on the Windfall Gains Tax, providing clarity on how it may impact local landowners and development. A lively conversation followed around the Riverside Amphitheatre concept – a potential new public space aimed at enhancing local events and cultural life. Attendees contributed a range of innovative ideas and valuable local insights.
The forum also provided an update on the Growing Winchelsea initiatives, highlighting recent achievements and outlining next steps in continuing the town’s sustainable growth and liveability.
"Community engagement remains central to the Place Plan process, and Monday night’s turnout and enthusiasm underscored Winchelsea’s strong community spirit and shared vision for the future," continued John.
Further opportunities for involvement will be promoted in the coming months as planning continues.
