What is a Movie Club?

The Winchelsea Movie Club screens 10 carefully selected movies throughout 2025 in the Globe Theatre for its members. Movies are screened with the pre-agreement of royalty prices with the Federation of Victorian Film Societies which allows members to enjoy these movies at a low price.

How much will it cost to join?

Membership is open to any person aged 15 or more. Annual membership fee is $70 ($65 for Health Care Card holders). A seasonal membership, either autumn or spring season (five movies) of $40 ($35 for HCC holders) is also available.

What movies will be screened?

The committee have selected a mix of comedy, drama, romance, adventure and documentaries to appeal to a broad range of members. All movies will start at 7:30pm.

Can I buy a ticket at the door?

No. If Winchelsea Movie Club screened movies to the public without membership, royalties of up to $300 for each movie would be charged and so ticket prices would be much higher and could differ each month.

As a member, can I bring a guest to a movie?

All members may bring up to two guests a year for one visit each.

Is membership transferable?

Yes. Any member can transfer their membership to a guest. To facilitate this, members will need to give their membership card to their guest to show at the door.

What does my membership include?

Members can relax and enjoy each movie in an air-conditioned environment. After each movie, members can stay for a chat over a light supper of fresh sandwiches, wine and tea/coffee. Also, from time to time, special events will be held.

MOVIE CLUB BACKGROUND

Following the success of the Dressmaker exhibition at Barwon Park by the National Trust and the showing of the film by Growing Winchelsea members in 2016, a small subcommittee of Growing Winchelsea set up the Winchelsea Movie Club.

The Surf Coast shire provided sound equipment at approximately $30,000 and later through the work of the Globe Theatre committee an air-conditioning unit was installed. This made for a very comfortable environment.

In 2025, the Winchelsea Movie Club entered its 8th year of successful operation with one disrupted year due to Covid.

The Movie Club is a member of the Federation of Victorian Film Society, giving it access to film information and most of all, a greatly reduced royalty’s fee. This comes with conditions, one of which is that the Club must be on a membership basis only. Annual or half yearly tickets are available.

The committee select a mix of 10 movies for the year from comedy, drama, romance, adventure, or documentary. Showings are on the third Thursday of each month at 7.30 pm at the Globe Theatre. Delicious supper including wine is included.

Wicked Little Letters

A 1920s English seaside town bears witness to a farcical and occasionally sinister scandal in this riotous mystery comedy. Based on a stranger than fiction true story, WICKED LITTLE LETTERS follows two neighbors: deeply conservative local Edith Swan (Olivia Colman) and rowdy Irish migrant Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley). When Edith and fellow residents begin to receive wicked letters full of unintentionally hilarious profanities, foul-mouthed Rose is charged with the crime.
