The Growing Winchelsea Planning Sub-committee

ABOUT GROWING WINCHELSEA INC’S STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS
Commenced in 2017, the team was to focus on the planning/zoning of Winchelsea. We attended G21 meetings in 2018 to understand the directions of other townships.
The group developed a number of “20 year visions” to put to the Growing Winchelsea committee and, if accepted, to the Surf Coast Shire.
Including some 18 months on the “Old Shire Hall” (Tea Rooms) Working Group facilitated by SCS. A presentation to the SCS received accolades and predominately accepted by the SCS. A combination of events unfortunately unwound the recommended outcome. Subsequently resolved by the SCS.
Involvement in the SCS / Barwon Water Project to develop a strategy for recycling water across the municipality.
The development of a submission for the SCS Hinterland Strategy in 2019 was an interesting exercise, this issue has been raised again in late 2021 and early 2022. Should there be support, the group may address this again.
The conducting of the field day at Barwon Park was interrupted and has been the inspiration for the current development of a relationship with the National Trust of Victoria.
“Township Zoning” for the future of Winchelsea to include improved infrastructure or locations for retail, commercial, Secondary School, and services hubs, complete with car parks and delivery bays for traffic management remains a focus.
The revamping of the Industrial Estate has remained a significant issue for the group, culminating in the submission made in January 2022.
Involvement via “Support” or “direct involvement” with SCS initiated projects such as the Mud Hut rebuild, Winchelsea Library building refurbishment, Pool Revamp, Road Safety Strategy are all motivating to the Sub-committee.
We are continuously seeking ideas and those with skills to enable a vibrant and enjoyable township.
Forthcoming “Place Plan” (2025)
A draft “Place Plan” related to the Engagement Summary Report released in March 2024 will be coming out shortly for comment. See the Urban Futures Strategy (UFS) and Planning Scheme Review (PSR) engagement summary report. It is a useful document for the community.
