Have you noticed the roses on our Railway Platform? They have received a new lease of life with a much needed prune thanks to Kate Allen.
Following community consultation it was agreed that moving the roses was not a good idea because of their age and having grown well where they are thanks to Laureen Lloyd.
Laureen Lloyd was a long time resident of Winchelsea who grew and planted the roses many years ago at the station. In the time that Kate had known her, Laureen was a resident of Chelsea Lodge and a very passionate gardener & rose lover and grew many roses over the years from cuttings, including quite a few in the Chelsea Lodge gardens.
“The roses will do well now following fertilising, mulching and new edging thanks to the work of John Hutton member of the Winchelsea Stationeers subcommittee,” said John Tebbutt, President of Growing Winchelsea.
The subcommittee will continue to work with community participants, V/Line, Vic Track and Keep Victoria Beautiful to improve the visual appeal of the area. Why not visit the Railway Station in Spring and smell the roses,” concludes John Tebutt.
