Summer is fast approaching and soon drums will be heard by the river with the community getting down and dirty while having fun making mud bricks.
In March 2025 the Mud Hut will be the centre of fun and entertainment when Mud Fun comes to town to help the community install a cob wall around Mud Hut. Local entertainer Krazy Koala will engage participants in all sorts of activities while his puppets will entertain visitors.
Thanks to a $5000 Community Initiatives grant from the Surf Coast Shire Growing Winchelsea’s Let’s Get Together project will encourage business, community and government to come together and celebrate the final phase of the recently redeveloped Mud Hut with the addition of a mud brick wall around three sides.
“Together we are building a healthy connected community. The cob wall built by the Winchelsea community unifies our picnic shelter to be our new mud hut once more. This establishes our ownership of our community space and is an opportunity for special memories that we built together,” said Alison Dean, Convenor of Planning Committee. Individual community involvement will be acknowledged in some way through creative design & signage with the final rendering an artistic collaboration as well.
“This collaboration between community groups and interested individuals will finalise this asset for the community and visitors alike to enjoy for many years,” said John Tebbutt, President of Growing Winchelsea.
“Planning has been underway for some time and already all 150 students from our local school, together with 24 individuals will be involved with the Community Bank, Winchelsea and District, the Men’s Shed committing support,” continues John. “The next step is to contact all community organisations, services providers and business to outline the week’s activities and encourage their participation. It can be as simple as providing information or organisations may wish to run an activity aligned to their objectives,” continues Alison.
The theme for the week’s activities is Reduce, reuse and recycle and will incorporate food swaps, cooking demonstrations, information displays, promotion of health and wellbeing activities.
“So come on Winchelsea get behind this great opportunity to connect, build networks, learn new skills and have some fun,” concludes John.
