Following the 2025 Surf Coast Arts Trail, local artists and community members are already looking ahead to an even bigger and more vibrant event in 2026 — with a special focus on showcasing the creative energy of Winchelsea and the Hinterland.
While the 2025 trail saw limited activity in Winchelsea, there’s strong enthusiasm to change that next year. On Thursday 2 October 2025, artists from Winchelsea, Torquay, and Gherang gathered with key stakeholders and representatives from Surf Coast Shire to discuss ideas for expanding the trail and building a stronger local arts presence.
Bridget Rasmussen, Arts Development Officer with Surf Coast Shire was in attendance and highlighted the meeting as a valuable opportunity to explore ways of strengthening Winchelsea’s role in the trail.
“The Arts Trail is all about celebrating creativity across our communities. There’s a real appetite in Winchelsea to get involved, and by working together, we can make 2026 a year to remember,” Veronica McDonald, Artists with Riverlee Artists said.
The meeting, hosted in partnership with Growing Winchelsea, generated a range of exciting ideas — from pop-up exhibitions and open studios to music, workshops, and collaborations with local businesses. Some of these ideas will evolve over time, laying the groundwork for future arts initiatives across the Shire.
Community members interested in being part of the planning process are encouraged to get involved. Elaine Atkinson, Secretary of Growing Winchelsea, said the group is keen to hear from artists, performers, and anyone passionate about growing the arts locally.
“This is a great chance for our community to come together, support our local talent, and add something really special to the Surf Coast Arts Trail,” Elaine said.
